The natriuretic peptide family is a group of hormones secreted by cardiomyocytes, which act on adjacent cardiomyocytes and vascular smooth muscle cells in an autocrine or paracrine manner. It mainly includes type A (ANP), type B (BNP) and type C (CNP) natriuretic peptides. Studies have shown that the 2238T>C polymorphism of the NPPA gene can affect the efficacy of diuretics. Patients with polymorphic C alleles have increased sensitivity to diuretic drugs.
