["description"] => string(0) ""
      ["content"] => string(9827) "
Aspirin is widely considered the best practice for antiplatelet therapy in cardiovascular diseases (CVD) management. It is a cornerstone in preventing myocardial infarction by inhibiting platelets from forming blood clots.

However, the prevalence of aspirin resistance differs greatly across various groups of people based on factors such as gender, age, underlying health conditions, and aspirin resistance testing methodologies.

A systematic review found that aspirin resistance could be higher in women (26.9%) than men (23.5%)[1], and elderly patients with coronary artery disease had 9.3% to 24.8% aspirin resistance[1].

These findings underscore the need for accurate aspirin resistance testing to enhance personalized medicine and improve patient outcomes.

How Does Aspirin Inhibit Platelet Aggregation?

Aspirin, also known as acetylsalicylic acid, stops platelets from sticking together and forming clots by irreversibly blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX-1). Platelets need this enzyme to make thromboxane A2, a potent platelet activator, which induces platelet aggregation.

Without thromboxane A2, platelets can't clump together to form harmful blood clots. Moreover, they have no nucleus and DNA, so no new COX-1 can be produced. Hence, the effect of aspirin on platelets persists until new platelets are made, which takes about 7 to 10 days.

Even after stopping aspirin, the body may still take some time to resume normal blood clotting. Aspirin also changes a specific enzyme called COX-2. It is required in the prostaglandin pathway to reduce inflammation in the body. This is how aspirin helps decrease pain and swelling when taken in higher doses.

Mechanisms Behind Aspirin Resistance and Its Clinical Consequences

However, this drug can fail to hit its pharmacological target (COX-1), not effectively inhibiting platelet function and clot formation in a certain kind of group. In clinics, it is known as aspirin resistance.

(Copyright photo from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Blood_clot_diagram.png)

1. Mechanisms of Aspirin Resistance

To optimize patient management, it's important to understand these mechanisms. Various reasons could cause the occurrence of aspirin resistance, including:

Reduced Bioavailability

Aspirin works best when it is absorbed well in the stomach. Factors like pH level and meal intake can affect its absorption rate. Variability in absorption can result in varying plasma concentration levels, which might make it less effective.

Increased Platelet Turnover

In some inflammatory processes, such as atherosclerosis and other complications, the body makes new platelets faster than normal. This reduces aspirin's ability to block COX-1, which results in less efficacy of the drug over time.

Negative Drug Interactions

Taking other drugs such as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) along with aspirin can interfere with its binding to COX-1, diminishing its effectiveness in preventing blood clots.

2. Clinical Consequences of Aspirin Resistance

A research study has shown that aspirin resistance can raise heart events to 13 times higher in cardiovascular patients[2]. Generally, factors can result in severe clinical consequences:

High risk of myocardial infarction and stroke

Alternative antiplatelet agents

Difficulty in patient management

Need for precise aspirin resistance testing

Methods of Aspirin Resistance Testing

Accurate aspirin resistance testing is essential for optimizing patient outcomes, as it enables healthcare professionals to personalize aspirin therapy. The following aspirin resistance testing methods are widely used to check its effectiveness:

(Copyright photo from: https://unsplash.com/photos/red-plastic-container-with-white-powder-kQrBavaF-Fk)

1. Platelet Function Tests

Platelet function test is one of the methods to undergo aspirin resistance testing in labs and clinical settings, such as:

Light Transmission Aggregometry (LTA)

Platelet Function Analyzer 100/200 (PFA 100/200)

Thromboelastography (TEG)

Thromboxane B2 (TXB2) Testing

These aspirin resistance tests can be used to measure the efficacy of aspirin in preventing platelet aggregation. However, in a study of 201 patients with stable coronary artery disease, researchers found unclear results in these different tests[3]. Yield significantly varied results when detecting aspirin resistance. It suggests that these tests may not reliably assess aspirin's antiplatelet effects.

Besides, the study found poor correlation and agreement among the different testing methods as well[3]. This indicates that even when multiple aspirin resistance tests are employed, the conclusions might be inconsistent, complicating clinical decision-making.

2. Genetic Tests

Genetic testing for aspirin resistance is an emerging area of research that aims to enhance the effectiveness of aspirin therapy in preventing cardiovascular diseases. Several studies have identified specific genetic variants associated with aspirin resistance, notably including[4]:

ITGB3

ITGA2

PTGS1

PTGS2

Similarly, a study reviewed various laboratory genetic tests for aspirin resistance, showing a strong link between the particular genetic variant “P1A1/A2” in the GPIIIa receptor gene (ITGB3) and aspirin resistance[5].

Consequently, genetic testing is a more reliable way to identify patients likely to benefit from alternative therapies or adjusted dosages, thereby improving precision medicine and treatment outcomes

Tianlong’s Aspirin Personalized Medication Solutions

This association is especially noted in healthy individuals, but it can only be identified if the results are accurate. To ensure error-free results, Tialong’s ligation sequencing kit, the Aspirin Personalized Medication Solution, is specifically designed for precision in aspirin resistance testing and subsequent medication use. The features include:

99% accuracy in detection results

70 minutes process to determine the presence of TGB3 (c.176 T>C), LTC4S (c.-444 A>C), PEAR1 (C.-9-3996 G>A), PTGS1 (c.-842 A>G) and GP1BA (c.482 C>T)

Pre-filled reagents without sample extraction

Conclusion

Aspirin resistance poses a significant challenge for cardiovascular patients. Accurate aspirin resistance testing methods are required for precision medicine. Using accurate and efficient testing reagents like Tianlong’s ligation sequencing kits on aspirin resistance, doctors can offer customized treatments for better safety and aspirin efficacy.

At Tianlong, we are a trusted name in genetic testing and molecular diagnostics. These illnesses begin gradually to interfere with the breathing ability of a cat, thereby affecting its general well-being. If left without treatment, a cat becomes subjected to severe instances of breathing complications, which makes it hard for the cat to eat or even play. Chronic illness, pain, and even death occur over time. But what if there existed an easy way of early diagnosis of such feline respiratory distress?

(Copyright image from: https://www.freepik.com/free-photo/medium-shot-elderly-man-with-cat_37558871.htm#fromView=search&page=1&position=15&uuid=816ee95a-eef6-477e-ac7c-e222b996f8fb)

Why Cats Are Susceptible to Respiratory Diseases?

Cats are prone to feline respiratory distress infections. It often happens this way because cats will find each other at animal shelters, homes, or outdoors. Such diseases are caused by pathogens, like viruses and bacteria. Once the pathology has affected a cat's respiratory system, it normally demonstrates symptoms characterized by sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge, and difficulty breathing. Such clinical signs are elements of the feline respiratory disease complex and can make a cat feel pretty ill and affect its overall rate of respiration. These cats need to be diagnosed in time and get the proper treatment. Therefore, a reliable tool that identifies typical pathogens responsible for such diseases will be helpful.

Common Causes of Respiratory Infections in Cats

There are several pathogens responsible for feline respiratory disease complex symptoms. However, the most common ones are:

1. Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1)

This is one of the critical causes of feline respiratory distress. Its symptoms include sneezing, eye discharge, and nasal congestion. The FHV-1 virus is very contagious since once a cat is infected, it carries it its whole life. Thus, at times of stress, the virus may reactivate and cause new diseases.

2. Feline Calicivirus (FCV)

FCV is another contagious virus that affects the respiratory system and can cause oral diseases. It often co-occurs with FHV-1 and is responsible for many upper respiratory infections (URIs) in cats. Symptoms include sneezing, nasal discharge, ulcers in the mouth (especially on the tongue and gums), drooling, fever, and joint pain. Some strains of FCV can cause severe respiratory distress.

3. Bordetella bronchiseptica (Bb)

Bordetella bronchiseptica is a bacterial pathogen that commonly causes respiratory infections in dogs but can also infect cats. It’s especially prevalent in high-density environments like shelters and catteries. While it typically causes mild symptoms, it can be more dangerous in kittens, older cats, or those with weakened immune systems.

4. Mycoplasma Felis (MF)

Mycoplasma felis is a type of bacteria that lacks a cell wall, making it unique from other bacteria. It can infect the respiratory system, as well as the eyes, causing respiratory infections and conjunctivitis. Mycoplasma infections can be chronic and challenging to treat, particularly when combined with other feline respiratory distress. In some cases, it can lead to pneumonia.

5. Chlamydophila Felis (CF)

This bacterium mainly causes conjunctivitis and cat eye infections and can be cat-to-cat transmitted through direct contact. CF infection is mainly observed in cats that share their environments, for instance, those staying in a cattery or a shelter. This bacterium spreads through direct contact with infected cats, mainly through eye secretions. It can also be spread via contaminated objects like bedding or food bowls.

These five pathogens are the main causes of feline respiratory distress. Early determination of the appropriate pathogen will mean providing the cat with the correct treatment for its condition, improving the cat's health.

Diagnostic Techniques for Feline Respiratory Distress

Diagnosis of a feline showing signs of respiratory distress is made based on various methods by which veterinarians identify the cause of distress. These diagnostic techniques commonly include:

1. Serological Testing

This is an in-blood testing technique whereby one checks whether there are antibodies or antigens in the blood of a cat associated with particular disease-causing pathogens. Serological testing is often employed when veterinarians suspect viral or bacterial infections and want to confirm a diagnosis based on immune response, particularly when combined with clinical symptoms.

2. Radiography and Imaging Techniques

X-rays or other imaging techniques are often available so the veterinarian can see through the body to see the lungs and chest area; changes in form, such as fluid buildup or signs of inflammation, may indicate a respiratory disease. Radiography is commonly used to assess the severity of respiratory distress, particularly when secondary complications like pneumonia, bronchitis, or pleural effusion are suspected.

3. PCR Testing

One of the most reliable methods adopted in detecting pathogens is Polymerase Chain Reaction or PCR testing. This technique can indicate the existence of particular genetic material coming from either bacteria or viruses. This would thus give an accurate and rapid diagnosis. This technique has been of great importance in the detection of respiratory infections caused by multiple pathogens.

(Copyright image from: https://www.freepik.com/free-photo/white-fluffy-cat-veterinarian-with-cats-animals-couch_13320879.htm#fromView=search&page=1&position=0&uuid=9b9b21b7-b248-4612-b635-001fbb3548bb)

TIANLONG's Feline Respiratory 5 Types Pathogen Panel Kit: An Efficient and Effective Diagnostic Solution

For anyone looking for the most accurate and efficient diagnostic tool, a perfect solution can be found in TIANLONG's Feline Respiratory 5 Types Pathogen Panel Nucleic Acid Detection Kit (Fluorescence PCR Method). Here are some reasons why this freeze-dried nucleic acid kit is good for the diagnosis of feline respiratory diseases.

· Accurate Detection

With the advanced technology of PCR, this kit goes around detecting DNA or RNA of the five most common respiratory pathogens in cats, including Feline Herpesvirus, Feline Calicivirus, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Mycoplasma Felis, and Chlamydophila Felis. The fluorescence PCR method ensures high sensitivity and can easily detect the minute presence of genetic material of feline respiratory distress pathogen. This degree of accuracy helps veterinarians quickly determine what ails a cat.

· Internal Control

The kit comprises an internal control for the purification process and is free from contamination. This will provide confidence among users concerning the accuracy and dependability of the results.

· Easy and Simple to Use

TIANLONG's Feline Respiratory 5 Types Pathogen Panel Nucleic Acid Detection Kit is simple to use due to its property of freeze-dried. This reagent only requires reconstitution in water before use, reducing the number of preparation steps and potential for errors compared to traditional liquid PCR reagents. As a result, our Tianlong kit can be highly recommended for veterinary clinics, research labs, and animal shelters for treating feline respiratory distress.

How Feline Respiratory 5 Types Pathogen Panel Nucleic Acid Detection Kit Works?

It is quite easy to use TIANLONG's Feline Respiratory 5 Types Pathogen Panel Nucleic Acid Detection Kit. Here are the basic steps as follows:

· Sample Collection

Sample collection aims to collect a sample from the cat that may contain genetic material (DNA or RNA) of the pathogens causing the respiratory infection. The collected swabs are then placed in a transport medium to preserve any pathogens present until laboratory processing.

· Nucleic Acid Extraction

This step aims to isolate and purify the nucleic acids (DNA or RNA) from the pathogens present in the collected sample. This step is crucial because PCR requires pure nucleic acid to accurately amplify and detect specific pathogen sequences.

· PCR Detection

This step aims to detect the presence of specific pathogen genetic material by amplifying targeted sequences using real-time PCR. Fluorescence is used to quantify the amount of nucleic acid during the amplification process. The test results indicate the presence or absence of the five ordinary feline respiratory pathogens based on the fluorescence signal during PCR. If a pathogen’s genetic material is detected, the corresponding pathogen is identified as the cause of the respiratory distress.

Conclusion

Our TIANLONG’s Feline Respiratory 5 Types Pathogen Panel Nucleic Acid Detection Kit has been effective in the diagnosis of feline respiratory distress. As this diagnostic kit is accurate and user-friendly in its design, results acquired through it are reliable. This makes them ideal for veterinary clinics, any research laboratory that wants to lower the feline respiratory rate or even a pet owner who sincerely cares for his/her animals.

For more details on this product, as well as other diagnostic tools by TIANLONG, visit our entire lineup of diagnostic instruments.
"

They use microbiological and chemical testing to determine whether the food contains microbes or pathogens. It is their utmost responsibility to maintain a healthy food supply chain by detecting hazards and meeting safety standards. This food safety monitoring helps reduce the risk of foodborne diseases and retrain consumer trust.

So, in today’s article, we are going to provide a detailed guide on how they carry out effective monitoring for high standards of the food, seeing what mission, indicator, and methods for food safety monitoring in labs.

The mission of Food Safety Monitoring in Lab

The primary purpose of lab researchers in food safety monitoring is to ensure that all food products are safe to consume. It involves various detection methods, preventive measures, and expertise to check contamination.

So, the ultimate mission is to identify the risks before letting them reach the market, assessing the chemical and biological hazards in food during distribution. It includes knowledge of identification, detecting methods, analysis, monitoring, and extracting reports. Along with detecting hazards, labs also help in preventing contamination during food production.

Besides, they also ensure the whole process follows the set standards of food safety and regulations, like the FDA, EFSA, etc.

They also check and analyze previous statistics and reports to avoid future hazards and potential risks. The safe food standards are set by authorities.

Key Indicators of Food Safety Monitoring

Food safety monitoring or testing commonly examines food chemical composition, the presence of pathogens, physical properties, and the potential for unsafe ingredients. Lab researchers use specific measures to check the contamination or hazards in food. Here are the key indicators that determine how safe the food is for consumption.

Microorganisms in Food Safety Concerns

Compared to other contaminations, microorganisms multiply, cause foul odor in the food, and show spoilage signs. Infections occur when you eat the contaminated food, and bacteria continue to multiply in your gastrointestinal system. It could render 128,000 hospitalized, and even 3,000 die every year in the United States. Patients always have the following symptoms:

Fever

Nausea or Vomiting

Diarrhea & Stomach Cramping

As a result, undergoing food safety monitoring aims to find out the cause of foodborne illness. More importantly, it is a kind of social responsibility to ensure public health.

Monitoring Tools for Microbicidal Indicators of Food Safety

For food safety monitoring, there are tools that lab researchers use to detect and test microbicidal indicators. These help them have an estimation of the microbes and ATP count in the food. Here are the tools and their usage in food monitoring:

1. Microscopy

Food contamination is detected with various analysis methods because of safety reasons. For this analysis, the lab researchers use microscopy, a device to identify microorganisms in prepared food. It allows a direct look at bacteria, yeast, molds, and other contamination.

Different microscopes are used to identify different microbial contamination that are as follows:

· Stereo Microscopes: Used for spotting foreign materials in food at low magnification.

· Polarizing Microscope: Identifies microbes in fatty or fibrous foods.

· Fluorescence Microscope: Detects bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli using gram staining.

· Scanning Electron Microscopes: Essential for examining high-fat or high-water foods and controlling moisture and pressure.

2. Total Plate Count (TPC) and Aerobic Plate Count (APC)

TPC is a method used to determine the total number of bacteria in a food sample, while APC is used as an indicator to tell the populations of bacteria in food samples. These serve as excellent indicators in food safety monitoring to determine the contamination and effectiveness of particles. Lab researchers use them for various stages in food production, from ingredients to the final product.

3. ATP Monitoring System

The ATP monitoring system is a device used to meet the ATP test standards of the given food sample. Because of the presence of ATP, these foods are more likely to be contaminated by microorganisms. When food is combined with chemicals in the sampler, a chemiluminescent reaction occurs that results in light. The amount of light decides how much ATP is present in the food.

Introducing Tianlong’s Biolum Portable ATP Monitoring System Pro

Our Tianlong’s Biolum Portable ATP Monitoring System Pro is a powerful and convenient ATP testing solution that can deliver accurate food safety monitoring results in labs. A total of 26 confirmed cases, including eight deaths (CFR: 31%), have been reported. Blood samples taken from people showing symptoms were tested by real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) at the National Reference Laboratory of the Rwanda Biomedical Center and were positive for Marburg virus.

About Marburg Virus Disease (MVD)

Marburg virus disease (MVD), formerly known as Marburg haemorrhagic fever, is a severe, often fatal illness in humans. The average MVD case fatality rate is around 50%. Case fatality rates have varied from 24% to 88% in past outbreaks. There are currently no approved vaccines or antiviral treatments for MVD, but a range of vaccines and drug therapies are under development.

Transmission of Marburg Virus

Marburg virus can spread through human-to-human transmission via direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and with surfaces and materials (e.g. bedding, clothing) contaminated with these fluids.

Symptoms of Marburg Virus Disease

The incubation period (interval from infection to onset of symptoms) varies from 2 to 21 days. MVD begins abruptly, with high fever, severe headache and severe malaise. Muscle aches and pains are a common feature. From day 5 of the disease, patients may develop haemorrhagic manifestations, including fresh blood in vomitus and faeces, bleeding from the nose, gums, and vagina. In fatal cases, death occurs most often between 8 and 9 days after symptom onset, usually preceded by severe blood loss and shock.

Diagnosis of MVD

Diagnosing MVD can be challenging due to symptom overlap with other diseases like malaria, typhoid fever, and other viral haemorrhagic fevers. The confirmation of Marburg virus infection is made through diagnostic methods such as:

- Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assays

- Antibody-capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA)

- Antigen-capture detection tests

- Virus isolation in maximum containment laboratories

Tianlong Marburg Virus Nucleic Acid Detection Kit (Real-time RT-PCR)

In the absence of specific treatments or vaccines, early supportive care, including rehydration and symptomatic treatment, can improve survival rates.

To assist in the diagnosis and public health response to Marburg virus disease, Tianlong has developed the Marburg Virus Nucleic Acid Detection Kit, based on the qualitative detection of Marburg Virus nucleic acid by Real-time reverse transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (real-time RT-PCR) method. This kit is designed to detect RNA from Marburg Virus in specimens such as human serum sample collected from individual personnel based on clinical and/or epidemiological criteria, facilitating early diagnosis and effective disease management.

By providing fast and precise detection, Tianlong's solution supports clinical decisions, aiding in both the care of individual patients and the overall public health response to MVD outbreaks.
"

According to a report by WHO, almost 420,000 people die every year by eating contaminated food[1].

ATP Labs guarantee new cleanliness standards by testing germs and organic residues on surfaces. In a food safety lab, ATP testing gadgets are used as critical markers for unhygienic surfaces.

Below, we have shared how ATP monitoring devices have revolutionized cleanliness standards in food safety labs.

ATP, Explained

ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) is an organic molecule in the cell membranes of living organisms. Often termed the "energy source" of cells, it is a nucleotide helping the human body in various functions. Mostly, it is used during muscle contraction, nerve impulse propagation, and chemical synthesis. An enzyme ATP synthase produces ATP in cells[2].

The Adenosine Triphosphate test is used for preventing viral infections in the healthcare and food sectors. Since ATP is found in every living organism, its presence indicates if there is any biological material present on a surface. In a food safety lab, it is being tested using a detector called a Luminometer.

Public domain image from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adenosine_triphosphate

Pathogenic Bacteria Rendering Food Safety

The main reason for spoiled or unhygienic food is the presence of pathogens in it. As time passes, bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms multiply on the surface of food, making it unsafe for consumption.

Due to certain environmental conditions, pH, and temperature levels, these pathogens continue to grow. For instance, bacteria grow in huge numbers at 37 °C, which is the room temperature in many regions. That’s why it is the first microbe to be grown on food.

Here are some of the most common foodborne pathogens:

1. Salmonella

Potential Period: Patients get symptoms within 8 to 72 hours after exposure[3].

Potential Risks: Salmonella causes salmonellosis or salmonella infection, leading to upset stomach, diarrhea, fever, and pain.

Infectious Dose: 103 bacilli (non-typhoidal) and 105 bacilli (enteric)[4].

2.
